Welcome to a Christmas / Holiday 2007 Special:

It's that time of year again! This December marks our
2nd Annual Christmas / Holiday (Top 5 List) Special.

Comforting words, worth repeating...

It's hard to find someone who can't pick out a favorite holiday song from their childhood... you know, those old time classics that wash your troubles away... Why not cleanse your spirit, and find relief from the stress that comes with this hectic season, with some new holiday classics.

This year's list contains music bursting-full of holiday spirit. "The List," as with last year's, are perfect additions to your holidays this year, and for years to come. Bellow are my hand-picked top five favorites for this season; two of which are from independent artists. I've also included three honorable mentions.

I encourage you to take a moment and visit each artist's site, and listen to any available samples.  You can purchase digital downloads of all but two albums, so you can get most of them without having to deal with crowds and jam-packed stores.

Mannheim Steamroller's latest disappoints...

Lavender ribbons...

On July 5, 2007 a large mass was discovered in my colon via a colonoscopy. One week later I got a call that it was in-fact a fast-growing tumor that needed to be removed as soon as possible. One question they couldn't answer was whether or not it was benign or malignant; an answer they couldn't give me until they took it out.

Surgery was quickly scheduled and performed near the end of July. While still in the hospital recovering from the surgery, I found out... it was malignant.

After my stay in the hospital, I had to go back just a few days later, due to a complication the medications caused. I'm back home again, and slowly recovering, taking one day at a time.

You may notice the "Lavender ribbons" on the site. Lavender is the widely used / chosen color for general cancer awareness.

"Search" tool updated (sort-of)

It appears that the search box at the top of every page utilizing the "old" site design no longer works. Pages that use the "new" site style have been tested, and work properly. I also went ahead and updated the "results" page to the new design code.

I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause, but at this time I can't go around and update the code for the old pages.

I suggest you make use of the dedicated search page. or use the search box on any of the "new" style pages.

Pardon our Dust

We hit a rather large wall in regards to the continuing development of Streams-of-Time. Much of the hardwork behind-the-scenes came to a screeching halt when it was discovered that the imporvements weren't fully compatible with the new management core. Work on the site has started again, this time the old fashioned way. Unfortunately the improvements will be appearing slower than originally expected.

Phase 5.01 :: "What's New"

Welcome to the redesigned "What's New" page!

To the right you see the new information side bar, this element will be a common feature on nearly all pages here at Streams-of-Time once the new design is applied site wide.

Currently the "News Archives" links are not active. This will be remedied in a future update.

Phase 5.02 :: "Introducing: printer friendly formating"

The redesigned "What's New" page is the first section of Streams-of-Time to feature a "printer friendly format" style sheet. In other words... when your browser prints the page, it will save ink/toner by omitting the header graphic and unnecessary colors. Also, the design is optimized for 8.5x11 paper (though content will often require multiple pages). The printer friendly format will apply to all pages once the new design is applied site wide.

Phase 5.03 :: "Joshua's Music Reviews"

I've updated my Music Reviews page to it's new design. Nancy's, Frank's, and Jack's will soon follow suit.

New features:

• New address, now it's just:
  http://www.streams-of-time.com/joshua/, the old address immediately forwards to the new URL, so existing bookmarks and/or links still work
• The new site colors and layout have been applied
• Larger size for the album covers within the sidebar
• The sidebar includes my "Currently Listening to..." feature, as well as RSS subscription links
• The review listings are now easier to read w/ larger gaps between each title, and dotted separator lines
• The page is completely managed using CSS, bye bye tables

Side note: My review of Jim Brickman's Christmas Holiday Concert has also been updated to reflect the new site changes.

The Music Reviews Index page has been updated to reflect the new site style. The key change has been the implementation of the easier to read review listings.

RSS Feeds Enhanced

As a trial run, our RSS feeds are being enhanced by FeedBurner. The services provided by FeedBurner allow users a graphical page when they first click on our feeds, and added functionality with the inclusion of "Email this", "Add to del.icio.us", and "Digg This!" links to each feed item. Besides these features, the use of FeedBurner should be transparent to you the user. The feed addresses have not changed, continue to use the same feed addresses to stay up to date with what is happening at Streams-of-Time.

Update 02/25/2007 ::

As originally posted, I was checking out what FeedBurner had to offer on a trial basis. After two months, I've decided to revert back to my non FeedBurner enhanced feeds.  Due to the fact that precautions were taken to make sure the feed addresses never changed, the transition back should be completely transparent.

Domain-name extension change

Streams-of-Time recently switched domain extensions from ".net" to ".com". The transition went smoothly, and I believe I've ironed out all the bugs. Current web links, bookmarks, etc. should automatically forward from the old address to the new address.

I would recommend those following our RSS feeds that you re-subscribe to them at their new addresses, and remove the old feeds from your readers.
